Tips For An At-Home Facial
Posted on May 12, 2020
We might all be a little stressed right now. Being stuck at home isn’t always the most fun, and we may be running out of things to make ourselves feel better. For us ladies, we may be missing the spas and salons. What if we told you we could help mimic the feeling of a serene spa in the comfort of your home? Get ready ladies; Here are some tips for an at-home facial!
First, let’s start off with why this is a good idea. Home isolation means more TV, more computers, and more phones. More time inside also means little exposure to essential nutrients. We are hurting our skin daily, without even noticing it. Facials help to bring back the hydration, repair your skin, and allow you to take some time for self care and relaxation.
FIRST
Prep your skin. Start with an oil cleanser to gently remove any makeup or build up from the day. Follow with a gentle cleanser to fully cleanse your skin and pat dry.
SECOND
Tone your skin. Toner is great for a final cleansing of the skin, acting as a test to ensure all the makeup is removed. Rub a cotton pad doused in your favorite toner in outward strokes. If it comes back clean, all your makeup is removed! If not, try cleansing one more time. Toner will help to prep your skin for all following treatments.
THIRD
It’s about to get steamy! Open your pores with a refreshing steam treatment. If you have a facial steamer, that’s great! Turn it on and get steaming. If you don’t own a facial steamer, no problem! All you have to do is boil some water and steam your face over it. Do this for 2-5 minutes. Once your pores are open, your skin will be more susceptible to products and allow them to work more effectively.
FOURTH
Exfoliate your skin. Use a gentle exfoliant to rid your skin of any dead cells that may still be blocking your pores. Bee Scrubbed is great for all skin types. Ensure that you are applying the scrub gently. Rough movements can cause tiny tears in your skin.
FIFTH
Choose your mask. Assess your skin and determine what it really needs. Hydration, blemish control, brightening...whatever it is. Apply that mask generously to your face and neck. Leave on for 10 minutes and remove with a warm, damp washcloth.
SIXTH
Grab your favorite facial oil. Apply 3-4 drops on the skin and massage in upward strokes. This will assist in lymphatic drainage, toning and lifting the skin. If you prefer, use a gua sha stone. Make sure you don’t forget the neck!
SEVENTH
Seal in the skincare with a serum. The choice is yours. Once again, assess the skin to see what it needs. Apply a few drops to the face and either massage in circular motions or use a jade roller to help absorb the product.
EIGHTH
Apply your eye cream/gel. Dab, don’t rub, a little bit of your cream or gel around the entirety of your eye, including the lids. Make sure you’re extra gentle with this step, as the eye area is the most sensitive.
FINALLY, THE NINTH STEP
Lastly, apply a moisturizer to both your face and neck. You can massage in upward strokes again if you’d like.
And you’re done! At-home facials may not totally be the same as being at a spa, but it can be close! So light a candle, set the mood lighting, play some music and get going!
