FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment for my eyebrows?

We do brows on a first come, first served basis.

Can I get waxed while on dermatology medication?

Come in and tell our esthetician what medications you are using; we can tweeze only if necessary.

How often should I maintain my eyebrows?

Upkeep waxing is usually at approximately two weeks, it may depend on your hair growth rate.

Is there any prep needed before I come in for eyebrow waxing?

None is necessary.

What kind of waxing products do you use?

All of our wax is organic, naturally-based and chosen for sensitive skin. We have green tea, honey, beeswax, chocolate, hard wax and more.

Do you double dip?

NO, we replace the stick after every dip. We take extra precautions to be sanitary and proficient.

Will waxing result in redness and/or irritation of the area waxed?

Some people experience temporary redness, irritation or hives. However, we developed the BEE RELIEVED product to help reduce inflammation and minimize adverse reactions.

What if I always break out with hives and/or pimples after waxing?

BEE WAXED COSMETICS has a variety of solutions for you! We can tweeze only, or use a non-clogging residue-free oil after waxing. Another great option is our naturally-formulated BEE RELIEVED CREAM that we can apply and also have available for purchase.

What if I have an allergy to waxing?

Medical evidence does not suggest an allergic reaction to wax. However, hives or breakouts occur due to allergens existing in the body, or skin irritation. We have multiple solutions that aid in prevention and aftercare.

How long before my special event should I get waxed?

We recommend waxing at least 2-3 days before a special event for your skin and brows to look their best.

Can I still wax if I tanned the day before?

We recommend waiting at least 24 hours between tanning and waxing. Your skin may be more sensitive due to sun exposure.

What is the benefit of waxing opposed to threading?

Waxing is a more precise procedure, allowing for more control over eyebrow shape and higher arches. With waxing, eyebrows can continue to grow healthy, thin, soft and even-textured.

Threading is a process by which thread is twisted onto the hair, pulling and cutting the surface of the hair follicle. It may cause surface sensitivity. Hair appears to grow back uneven, short and coarse. Some damage may result to the hair follicle if it is threaded regularly.

Why should I wax as opposed to shaving, tweezing or electrolysis?

Waxing is a tried-and-true method for shaping eyebrows. It does not damage hair follicles, and when the eyebrow grows back, it comes in thinner, with consistent coverage and a natural look.

Shaving is a surface cutting process which does not pull the hair from the follicle, therefore the hair’s quantity and thickness stays the same. The hair grows back immediately as stubble.

Tweezing is a successful method for hair removal. We use it at BEE WAXED COSMETICS after waxing for precision immaculate cleanup as well as shaping. It is also an alternative to waxing if a client is taking medication that affects the skin. Please notify esthetician of retinols, acne, Renova, Accutane, Vitamin A, anti-aging and wrinkle preventive products purchased over the counter or prescribed by doctor.

Electrolysis is a method involving electrical current through needle that is placed on a hair follicle repeatedly over the course of months to years. Each hair follicle needs to be deadened at least 7 times in its various stages of growth. This may not be used if you have ingrown hairs, and the skin may become discolored. The shape of the brows once completed is their shape for life.

How can I grow my eyebrows?

We offer products that help stimulate your hair follicles for potential growth, just ask!

Can men get their eyebrows waxed?

Yes! It has become more popular for men to groom their eyebrows. Our professional estheticians keep the masculinity of the brow while shaping it to his facial structure.

Can girls or pre-teens get their eyebrows waxed?

While this varies based on the individual, we recommend if for ages nine and up.

What is difference between Bikini and a Brazilian wax?

Brazilian wax is the removal of all hair in the pubic area and between the buttocks. Some people opt to have a small strip of hair remaining at the front.

Bikini wax is the removal of hair outside of the area a bikini would cover. It includes a shape, trim, clean up and between the buttocks.

Do I need an appointment for Bikini/Brazilian waxing?

Appointments are required for bikini/Brazilian and body waxing.

Can I get a wax if I am pregnant?

We can wax throughout your entire pregnancy.

Is there any prep needed before I come in for a bikini/Brazilian wax?

We recommend exfoliating the bikini area prior to your appointment. Make sure you have clean skin, ¼ inch of hair growth and a list of any medical conditions and medications that you are using at the time of waxing service.

How long do I have to wait before getting a bikini/ Brazilian wax?

If you shaved or used hair removal cream as your last method, wait three weeks before your waxing appointment. Book it for just after your menstrual cycle if possible.

Is it painful to get a Brazilian Wax?

There may be some discomfort, however, our estheticians are trained to minimize any sensitivity.

Can I exercise, swim, engage in regular daily activities after a Brazilian or bikini wax?

Yes, you are ready for regular activities.

Is tweezing involved in the procedure of bikini/Brazilian waxing?

Yes, for a manicured finish. If you wish to avoid tweezing, make sure you have at least 1/4-inch of growth and avoid any hair removal methods between services. BEE WAXED COSMETICS estheticians will discuss your options with you.

What kind of wax do you use?

We use an organic, all-natural green tea wax. We do not double dip our sticks. Upon request, we use a hard wax or a honey beeswax.

What is the age requirement for a bikini/Brazilian wax?

We wax all ages. Anyone under eighteen, please have a parent accompany you.

How often should I get waxed?

Maintenance is recommended every four to five weeks.

Will I get ingrown hairs?

With the proper post-waxing care, you can reduce or prevent the development of ingrown hairs. Exfoliation is necessary for pre- and post-wax care. Our bikini brush loofah and either of our signature products, BEE SUGARED or BEE SCRUBBED, will help eliminate the dead skin buildup around the hair follicle that can block hair from surfacing.

What is the benefit of waxing?

Waxing reduces hair growth when performed every four weeks. While shaving crops the hair at the skin’s surface, waxing pulls it out by the root, so it grows back softer, finer and thinner. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.

Can I shave between waxing?

Please do not shave between waxing appointments! It disrupts the hair growth cycle resulting in more hair and more work needed at your next appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cannot make your appointment please cancel at least 24 hours in advance or you will be subject to a fee equal to 20% of your scheduled service’s expense.

Our Estheticians make every effort to ensure a positive experience. We strive to create the most comfortable environment for all of our clients.

Why do we need facials?

Skin is a living part of your body, your largest organ, that defends against environmental assaults and extremes. It helps eliminate toxins from the body, and is continually renewing and protecting. For optimal, radiant skin health, it needs personal attention from a professional. Facials help increase circulation and stimulate the skin, to slow down premature aging and drastically improve conditions such as acne, redness and Rosacea.

What kind of results will I see after my facial?

A healthy glow will immediately be achieved following a facial. It should last typically 48-72 hours, as the skin is deeply hydrated and circulation has been boosted allowing the fresh blood to bring new nutrients to the cells.

The long-term benefit of a facial is its impact on cellular regeneration, a process that occurs over 28 to 45 days. Because daily care is combined with a professional regimen to achieve ongoing benefits, a facial should be scheduled every 4-6 weeks, removing dead  cells and allowing the skin to be cleared of impurities.

How do the seasons affect my skin?

The variation of climates during travel or seasonal changes affect our skin’s hydration, wrinkles, redness, tone, sebum and oil production, complexion, circulation, cellular regeneration, conditions like eczema, and general sensitivity.

What can I expect from my facial appointment?

Facials are meant to be a relaxing, pampering experience. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your facial appointment to fill out a brief informational form to alert us of any allergies or medical conditions. Your esthetician will evaluate your skin, ask you about your skincare goals, and make a recommendation for treatment.

Treatment includes deep cleansing, exfoliation, extractions (if needed), then a massage and mask. We have additional equipment and techniques that are specialized for the custom facial. We will recommend a follow-up daily regime as well as some products to help you to reach those goals of healthy optimized skin.

Do men get facials?

For healthier skin, many men enjoy regular facials to help minimize irritation, redness, and ingrown hairs associated with shaving or simply exposure to the elements.

Is there any prep needed before a facial?

No, we will take care of removing any makeup at the beginning of your facial.

What products do you use in your facial?

We use a variety of organic, natural, plant- and cell-based skin care products from Switzerland, Canada and Hungary. We have also formulated and developed our own line that is used in the salon and available for purchase.

What is the difference between a professional facial and a home facial?

A professional facial is given by a trained licensed esthetician. While a home facial is good for maintenance in between professional facials to prolong results, it does not offer the benefit of a magnifier UV lamp light, proper safe extractions, anti-bacterial probes, ultra-sonic or galvanic current treatments. These methods provide maximum absorption of products and improve blood flow and the appearance of your skin.

Are there different kind of facials?

There are different facials suitable for the skin and specific skin types. Facials can treat problems like dark patches, acne, and problematic skin. Refer to our facial consultation bar for the variety of facials that we offer.

How long does a facial take?

An hour to an hour and fifteen minutes.

How often should I get a facial?

We recommend a facial every 28 to 45 days.

What type of facial will help my breakouts?

Our BEE CLEAR FACIAL is an anti-acne facial that helps to eliminate the debris living inside the pore. We extract and use our special formula containing salicylic acid, lactic acid, zinc and other probiotics that break up acne-causing bacteria.

Will I breakout after a facial?

A break out should not, but may occur. Facial treatments often involve the extraction of blackhead pimples. An esthetician extracts the sebum blockage with gentle pressure using a tool or fingers; it will usually come to the skin’s surface. Occasionally, or if too much pressure is applied, bacteria from the blackhead can spread to nearby follicles, leading to infection and resulting in post-facial pimples. The BEE CLEAR FACIAL is designed with no pressure to the surrounding blockage which minimizes the chance of swelling or eruption.

What is an extraction?

An extraction is the process of clearing a clogged or compacted pore by manual or mechanical means. Extractions are often performed as part of a facial.

What is extracted out of skin during a facial?

Pimples result from a blockage of sebum, the natural oils produced in the sebaceous glands that waterproof and moisturize skin.

Sebum normally is expressed to the skin’s surface, usually via a hair follicle. When there’s a blockage, however, sebum backs up beneath the skin’s surface, where it attracts and nurtures bacteria.

Blackheads are a type of pimple where the pore remains open above the blockage. This allows oxygen from the ambient air to enter, oxidizing the infected sebum that causes the black color that gives these pimples their name.

Is direct sun exposure harmful after a facial?

If you recently had a facial or any treatment procedure you should protect your skin from sun exposure by using sunscreen. Sun sensitivity is expected when acne, glycolic, anti-aging, or peel treatments are used during a facial. Please consult with our esthetician on aftercare products and preventative measures.

Can you get a facial with a pace maker? While pregnant? With sensitive skin?

You can get a facial!

Please notify the esthetician and we will gladly work around your special conditions or circumstances by substituting or avoiding certain techniques. For example, if you have a heart condition, pace maker or any metal in your body, our ultra-sonic and galvanic currant cannot be used on you.

What age should someone start getting facials?

Facials are highly recommended for all ages and skin types. Getting professional skin care advice early will give your child good habits for a lifetime.

What is dermabrasion?

Dermabrasion is a treatment to improve the look of the skin. It uses a rough spinning wheel to remove and level the upper layer of the skin. The process can injure or wound the skin and cause it to bleed. As the wound heals, new skin grows to replace the damaged skin. The face is the most common site for this treatment, often used to improve the look of acne scars and fine lines around the mouth.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment that consists of a form of collagen induction therapy. It is designed to treat various skin conditions such as fine lines, wrinkles, light scarring from acne, photo-damage and to improve skin color and other skin texture changes.

How is the treatment administered?

Microneedling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile pen. The procedure is normally completed within 30-60 minutes depending on the required treatment and anatomical site. Before the procedure starts a topical anaesthetic will be applied to your skin to ensure a comfortable experience. After the skin is numbed, the technician gently moves the pen over your skin to puncture the epidermis layers of the skin and create miniscule sub-cutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen growth which may last up to a year. These wounds close within less than an hour.

What is the skins appearance after the treatment?

After the procedure the client’s skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to moderate sunburn. The client will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatments and within the next 24 hours the skin will be completely healed. After 3 days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.

How quickly are results visible?

Visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and improve further over time. A course of BEE MICRONEEDLED sessions, is usually recommended to achieve optimum results; however skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment.

Is BEE MICRONEEDLED safe?

Skin needling does not involve injections and therefore allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. It is minimally invasive, involves minimal downtime (circa 24hrs), rapid healing and requires simple after-care. To find out more information on aftercare click here

Why should I have Microneedling?

Skin needling is especially effective for aging concerns such as wrinkles, lines, folds and crows feet. Because collagen is produced, scars and stretch marks can also improve from treatments especially indented acne scars or chicken pox scars. Pigmentation issues can be helped including hyperpigmentation as well as Hypo-pigmentation, although pre- treatment assessment and preparation here is essential. General lack of skin radiance, skin firmness and compactness are also an indication for skin needling treatments and visible improvements can be seen.

Who is not a candidate for Microneedling?

Contraindications and precautions include; keloid or raised scarring; history of eczema, psoriasis and other chronic conditions; history of actinic (solar) keratosis; history of Herpes Simplex infections; history of diabetes; presence of raised moles, warts or any raised lesions on targeted area. Absolute contraindications include; scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities; Rosacea and blood clotting problems; active bacterial or fungal infection; immuno-suppression; scars less than 6 months old; and facial fillers in the past 6 months.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with BEE MICRONEEDLED?

Side effects experienced with BEE MICRONEEDLED will usually subside within 24-48 hours. They include erythema, stinging, itching and tightness of the skin.

How many treatments are necessary to achieve a good response?

Improvement is seen with each treatment but a series of 6 treatments is best to achieve optimal results.
Rule of thumb for skin improvement:

  • After 1st procedure: 30-40%
  • After 2nd procedure: about 50% of the 1st treatment
  • After 3rd procedure: about 50% of the 2nd treatment
  • In total: 50- 70% overall improvement after only 3 treatments.

How far apart are treatments done?

BEE MICRONEEDLED treatments can be repeated every 4-6 weeks.

Is BEE MICRONEEDLED safe for darker skin types?

Since no melanin-absorbing laser and no heat are involved, the BEE MICRONEEDLED is relatively safer than lasers, such as IPL, for darker skin types..

Who performs the treatments?

One of our technicians will perform your treatment.

Is Microneedling painful?

BEE MICRONEEDLED uses very fine needles and is relatively comfortable. Levels of pain vary from person to person. A topical numbing cream is applied.

How long is each treatment?

For a face, each treatment is 30 to 60 minutes.

How is BEE MICRONEEDLED different than a needle roller?

Needle rollers also use needles for skin resurfacing but are often too large and unwieldy for tight areas. They are also dependent on hand pressure, so the depth of penetration varies depending on the the amount of pressure exerted and the softness of the skin, while the BEE MICRONEEDLED depth of penetration is set precisely with an electornic dial. There is also lateral trauma to the skin when the needles on a roller pull out of the skin as the wheel turns. This does not happen with the BEE MICRONEEDLED pen, which relies only on vertical needle action.

Can you receive a BEE MICRONEEDLED treatment if pregnant?

Skin needling is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women due to a number of minor reasons. The needles produce micro-injuries which trigger the natural wound healing response. This wound healing and production of new collagen requires vitamins and nutrients which would otherwise be needed for the baby so is suggested to not be used during pregnancy.

How does BEE MICRONEEDLED work?

As the BEE MICRONEEDLED stamps over your skin, it creates micro-point punctures in the skin, the majority of which are simply pushing your pores open temporarily. This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. You encourage your skin to continue healing through this micro-needling process. Your skin normally assumes that scars, stretch marks and wrinkles are repaired, but with the BEE MICRONEEDLED auto-stamp micro-needling treatments, the skin is tricked into repairing itself. The process of micro-needling skin remodeling can go on for months after each BEE MICRONEEDLED treatment. Results can be seen within a week or even a few days. Your skin naturally heals itself every 45 days, so with a little micro-needling stimulation changes can be dramatic and fast.

What is the difference between kinds of eyelash extensions?

We offer a selection of high-quality strip lashes, applied expertly, for temporary use.

Our individual semi-permanent lashes are best used for clients that are looking to replace mascara for a couple weeks without the maintenance of lash extensions.

Lash extensions are placed on each individual lash, creating a similarity to your real lashes; the fullness, color and length can be customized to each client’s needs.

How long do lashes last?

We offer three different types of lash extensions. Temporary strips last for an evening or two. Semi-permanent individual lashes can remain for up to three weeks. Mink Extensions can last up to four months, with required monthly maintenance.

How much maintenance is required for the style of lashes you offer?

Strip lashes are for short term use and do not require maintenance, but can be replaced after removal.

Individual lashes may require weekly maintenance to look their best, depending on the client.

Lash extensions require a monthly upkeep. The shedding process is exact to your natural hair growth process, thus requiring fill-ins as your natural lashes shed.

Will my natural lashes remain after an eye lash application?

Yes, with proper maintenance. We advise no pulling or rubbing of the lashes. Please have our professional estheticians consult you on removal.

What steps are required for removal of lashes?

BWC estheticians apply a hypoallergenic solution to your lashes for safe removal allowing the natural eye lashes to remain without damage.

Do you provide the lashes?

We provide an assortment of lashes that are natural and hypo-allergenic: silk, mink, and faux fur. You will have a choice of length, thickness and fullness.

What kind of eyelash adhesive do you use?

How long does the application process take?

The temporary strips are the least time consuming and can be done within five to seven minutes. The individual lash process takes approximately twenty-five minutes. The lash extension process can take one to two hours, depending on the style and fullness desired.

How long does the lash extension fill-in take?

The maintenance touch-up requires 30 to 45 minutes.

Why would I want to tint my eyebrows/lashes?

Tinting adds definition, fullness and shape to your brows or lashes. It comes in many shades and can last up to 2-3 weeks. Tinting can be a great alternative to mascara, eyebrow pencils and/or powders if you:

  • have blonde, red or light brown lashes,
  • have thin, missing, pale, translucent or grey hairs,
  • use powders, pencils and/or mascara daily,
  • need low upkeep brow color and lashes.

How do you choose the right shade of eyebrow/eyelash tint?

Natural-look brows and lashes on brunettes are usually 1-2 shades lighter than your hair color. If your hair is light blonde or red, we recommend 1-2 shades darker. If your desired look is only for a fuller brow and/or darker lash, consult with our estheticians for options.

Is eyebrow/lash tinting safe?

Eyebrow and lash tinting is a safe procedure when done professionally. A common concern with dyeing near sensitive areas is whether an allergic reaction can occur. We use the safest hypoallergenic ingredients with safe application methods performed by our estheticians. Please notify your technician if you are allergic to any dye.

What type of dye is used?

For brow and lash tint, we use a vegetable dye containing semi-permanent stain with no harmful additives.

How long does the procedure take?

Brow tinting service takes a total of 10 to 15 minutes. Lash service take approximately 20 to 25 minutes.

How long does tinting last?

Color can last up to three weeks for brows and lashes. Gentle washing is recommended for maintenance, as any kind of exfoliation or scrub will speed up process of dye removal.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is the process of implanting color micro-pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of a tiny, sterile, disposable needle. Microblading is also known as Eyebrow Embroidery or 3D Brows which help to create natural looking bolder eyebrows. We tailor each client’s brows to fit the shape of their eyes and face. With microblading our certified experts will enhance the look of your eyebrows with minimal stress. We can produce a natural looking brow using tiny hair-like lines that resemble real hair. A blended pigmentation and soft shadows below the natural hair provide realistic colors to match skin and hair tones and give the illusion of fullness. The results are very flawless and natural looking brows.

What is the hair-stroke method?

Hair-stroke microblading is a process where a manual tattooing technique is used to deposit mineral based pigments into the skin. Hair-like tattoo strokes mimic natural hairs creating defined natural brows.

Why choose Microblading?

  • Semi-permanent
  • Creates full and even brows
  • Sweat and water proof
  • Camouflage any scars

Can I do this if I’m pregnant or breast feeding?

NO. We will not perform any cosmetic tattoo procedures while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is to ensure your safety.

Can I do this if I have had Microblading or another form of cosmetic tattooing in the past?

Microblading can POSSIBLY be done over an existing brow tattoo; however, Bee Waxed Cosmetics requires either a current photo be sent by email at info@beewaxedcosmetics.com or an in-person consultation be scheduled. In-person consultations can be scheduled by calling BEE WAXED COSMETICS PRIOR to scheduling your initial microblading appointment.

What is the process?

  • Consultation and brow design: all appointments include a 20 Minute brow consultation where together we will shape and design a set of brows that enhance your natural facial features.
  • Numbing: A topical anesthetic is applied for 20 minutes prior to the procedure to ensure maximum comfort. During the procedure a separate numbing agent is used to enhance numbing effects.
  • Tattooing: Chosen pigment(s) are implanted to create hair-like strokes that mimic the appearance of natural brow hair within the designed brow shape. About 60-90 minutes.

Will it hurt?

We are here to offer you the safest services that produce results with minimal pain and discomfort. We realize everyone’s pain tolerance varies. Two separate numbing agents are used prior and during the procedure to ensure comfort. It is highly recommended to avoid tattooing during the menstrual cycle because the skin can be hypersensitive. Clients have related the procedure with eyebrow threading, plucking multiple hairs at once, or a light scratching of the skin. We will walk you through every step and will do everything within our reach to make your experience a good one.

Do you shave the natural brow hairs?

We incorporate as much of the natural brow hairs as possible. Any stray hairs that lay outside of the brow design will be removed by Bee Waxed Cosmetics. We will shape your brows with our expert estheticians on the day of your service or in days prior to ensure maximum results.

Is Microblading safe?

The pigments which we use are extremely safe for your skin and cause no reactions. It comes in a variety of colors to match all hair colors. We do not implant these pigments as a traditional tattoo which penetrated deep into the skin. But our BEE WAXED COSMETICS experts just place these pigments in the top layer of your skin. This produces very crisp, fine, thin and natural hair lines

How long does it take to heal?

Everyone heals differently.  The healing time usually takes from 7 to 10 days depending on your age, aftercare routine. You may feel itchy, redness and mild selling after the procedure. You can immediately return to your daily routine or work.  You will be given some after care instructions from our experts that you must follow to ensure the best results.

DETAILS:

It takes about 2 weeks for the superficial layers of skin to close and heal. Deeper layers of the skin will take up to 4-8 weeks to fully heal. The first 3-5 days will appear dark (especially for light skin and light-haired clients).  You may feel itchy, redness and mild swelling after the procedure. Light peeling will start around day 4 or 5, which will reveal much lighter and softer hair strokes. The healing time usually takes from 7 to 10 days depending on your age and after care. You will be given some after care instructions from our experts that you must follow to ensure the best results. Use our BEE CALM to help heal your skin.

What will my healed brow tattoo look like?

There is absolutely no guarantees with cosmetic tattoo. Results will vary depending on skin type, lifestyle, and the immediate and long-term aftercare by the client. Once the scabbing peels the color will reduce 30-50%. The hair-strokes will appear softer and more muted (oily skin types hair strokes may heal softer and more-powdery while drier skin types may heal crisper and more defined). The color will fully settle in about 6 weeks. You may experience some patchiness after our first session but do not worry we will perfect them at the second session. Use our BEE COOL for your healing balm.

How long does the eyebrow microblading procedure last?

Eyebrow extension is a semi-permanent and will eventually fade.  Moreover, each skin type will hold pigments differently so the final results cannot be guaranteed.

Do I need a touch up?

Results will vary from person to person depending on skin type and color used. No matter how your chosen color looks, your brows will lose up to 50% of the boldness of the color during the healing process. Individuals may require 2 sessions to perfect their brows. Not all clients need or desire touchup. It is less likely that a touch up will be required for a client that has fuller brows. Clients with little or no natural brow hairs, or have corrected work may need additional touchups. Touchups would be within the 0 – 3 months.
