Mindful Meditation

Stress can have a terrible effect on your mind and body when experienced daily. The Harvard Gazette notes that eight out of 10 people experience stress daily. Consequently, these people are not able to relieve tension. This can, if not dealt with, lead to higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and other conditions. We’re here to help with some mindful meditation tips!
Mindful Meditation
The key to meditation is to be in the moment and focus on your thoughts and the muscles in your body. Try to follow some of these simple steps to start you off!
Take your seat. Find a spot that is most comfortable for you. It could be the floor, your bed, the couch...anywhere that gives you the ability to relax your muscles.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Let your mind go as blank as the inside of your eyelids and only focus on counting those breaths, in for three seconds, out for four.
Start with your toes. Wiggle them around and really feel the movement. Make sure they’re as loose as possible and then move up the body. Go to the legs, your core, the arms and shoulders. Feel and acknowledge everything as you go.
Open your eyes. Once you’ve relaxed every part of your body, come back to the eyes. Open them and take a moment to look ahead and take in your surroundings. Notice the little sounds, the way your body feels, the emotions you have. Take that moment to reflect on how you would like to continue your day.
That’s it! Taking a few minutes to reflect for yourself can help to ease a little bit of that stress from the day and improve your mental and emotional health. The best part is that this short practice can be done as often as you need!
