Benefits of Breaking a Sweat
I think it’s safe to say that most of us hate the feeling of sweat dripping down our forehead and feeling like we can be smelt from a mile away. We work up a sweat in most strenuous, stressful situations, but there is actually a real benefit to this. Sweat is good for us!
Here are some of the best ways sweat can help heal our bodies.
Boosts Endorphins
The best way to naturally boost your endorphins is to work out! Getting your blood flowing in any type of physical activity will increase your “feel good” endorphins. Sweat can release toxins, reduce stress, and give a sense of satisfaction and relaxation. Work out all your anger and end with a smile on your face. It’s been said that it’s less painful for people to work out in groups rather than alone, so grab a buddy and start coming up with the best workout routine for you!
Detox the Body
Who needs to start an expensive juice cleanse when sweat can give you the same results for free? Sweating can release the body from toxins such as sugar, cholesterol, and alcohol. Clearing your body of the bad stuff will also help to clear up your skin! Sweat can help to unclog pores. That means no more pesky zits or blackheads due to large pores. This only applies to moderate sweating, though. Excessive sweating can be bad for your health! We’ll talk more about that later.
Prevents Colds and Illnesses
There is research to say that sweating can be even more beneficial than antibiotics when it comes to getting ill. The salty and slightly acidic sweat that we produce act as our body’s own natural antibiotic called dermcidin. It is your body’s way of fighting off pathogens to prevent an illness before it starts!
Prevent Kidney Stones
A kidney stone is a small, hard mass that is formed in the kidneys and is composed of insoluble calcium compounds. These can be very painful in passing. The process of sweating removes salt and retains calcium in the bones. This means that the elements that find their way to the kidneys and urine, which is where the stones are formed, can simply be sweat out of the body. Another tip for prevention is ingesting plenty of water and fluids, which is typical of those who constantly break a sweat.
While so many benefits come out of sweating, is there a limit to how much is healthy?
The answer is yes. Excessive sweating can sometimes be a sign of hyperhidrosis. This is caused when the stimulation of sweat glands is hyperactive. You may experience symptoms such as
* Sweating from simple, everyday tasks
* Excessive sweating that becomes visibly noticeable
* Redness of the face and neck
There are a few simple ways you can reduce the amount of excess sweat you produce.
* Avoid wearing clothes that are too restricting -- it prevents the flow of oxygen and can cause your body to heat up.
* Wear plenty of antiperspirant.
* Avoid heavily caffeinated beverages.
* Invest in a topical treatment -- there are very few cases of hyperhidrosis that require more than a topical cream to soothe the sweat glands and reduce sweating.
There are so many benefits to perspiring, it’s hard to make up an excuse not to work out anymore! Grab a friend and try to make it part of your daily routine to increase your health while looking and feeling great!
