Why Should I Use Facial Oils?
Posted on March 26, 2019
Facial oils are huge in skincare right now! We see them all over social media and in cosmetics stores. You may be asking yourself: “Why should I use facials oils?” The fact is, they are a great way to help heal your skin or deal with any problems. We’ve laid out what we think are the best facial oils to use based on skin type!
Why Should I Use Facial Oils?
First, let’s talk about why facial oils may be great to add to your routine. Typically, we loath oily skin and all the problems that come with it, like looking shiny or having to reapply makeup throughout the day. The truth is that our skin needs oil production! When our skin generates a healthy amount of sebum, it is keeping our skin lubricated. In turn, this prevents the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, and slows down the aging process. Letting your skin dry out will not fix overproduction. Rather, it will trigger the skin to produce even more sebum! This could lead to a handful of problems including irritation and breakouts.
What Facial Oils Should I Use For My Skin Type?
Dry Skin - If you typically experience dry skin, oils that hydrate are key! Try searching the shelves for hydrating oils, as well as ones can help in reducing redness and irritation, two symptoms that generally coincide with dry skin. We believe Marula oils are great for this because of their ability to tackle all three of these problems, as well as having omega fatty acids.
Normal Skin - since normal skin generally doesn’t have overarching issues, there is no right answer as to what will be needed for your skin. Our advice is to avoid any oils that are heavy. Argan oil is great for nourishment! You can take a few drops of oil and mix it with your daily moisturizer to get that extra benefit throughout the day.
Acne-Prone Skin - This is where you should aim for lighter oils as to not clog the pores. Jojoba oil or Tea Tree oils are great because they can help to fight bacteria and soothe irritation without causing the skin to dry out.
Oily/Combination Skin - While these can be two categories on their own, they have a similarity. Jojoba oil is great for treating both these skin types! Jojoba oil can help clear up pores, maintain a balanced pH, and help soothe irritation. With these skin types, it’s important to look for oils that won’t make the skin feel too greasy or heavy, and that will have anti-bacterial properties.
How Can I Incorporate Facial Oils Into My Routine?
Simple! Facial oils can be used day or night. If used during the day, consider using a light oil and mixing in a few drops with your moisturizer so that the oil is doing the work throughout your entire day. If used at night, heavier oils can replace moisturizers. Just use a few drops and lightly massage it into the skin as the last step in your routine!
