Whether it’s a new year resolution, a necessary dietary need, or just because you want a healthier lifestyle, eating healthy is never a bad decision. We want you to be able to thrive in your everyday life and maintain your best possible lifestyle. We are here to help you learn how to eat healthy on a budget!
There is a widely believed misconception that eating healthy is expensive and difficult to obtain, especially when you are limited on cash. The truth is, all you have to do is think and shop smart! There are plenty of ways to stay healthy while saving a bit of money.
Take a look at these few tips on how to eat healthy on a budget!
HAVE A GAMEPLAN
It’s smart to have a plan when going into any store. Write yourself a list and know exactly what it is you’re shopping for. It saves you both time and money! Grab essentials you may be running low on, come in with healthy recipes in mind, and only stick to buying what you came for. It can be hard, but the best thing you can do for yourself is resist temptation! Avoid sweets aisles, and don’t be tempted by the candy at the register!
COUPONS
The savior of any and all shopping! Coupons are a great way to save a few dollars on items and your overall shopping trip. Browse online to see if you find any you can scan from your phone or print to take to the store with you. You can also sign up for grocery rewards memberships! These will get you exclusive store deals, send coupons in the mail, and print some off at checkout during your trip.
BUY IN BULK AND STOCK UP
Purchasing food items in bulk is much cheaper and lasts you much longer. Always make sure that your bulk items are ones that you can finish! You don’t want to have your money wasted on items that have perished. Always be sure to keep your pantry stocked with the essentials as well. Spices, oil, vinegar, potatoes, pasta, garlic; everyday items that you will need to create your meals!
On the topic of meals, don’t be scared to spice it up! Restaurant food is so delicious because of all the seasonings they add. Don’t be afraid to experiment! Spices add very little calorie intake to a meal, and many have antimicrobial properties.
SACRIFICE CONVENIENCE
Many everyday items we spend money on are unnecessary. Coffee, tea, smoothies, dressings, pre-made salads...these are all things we can make at home! We can save so much cash if we spend the little extra time making these at home. These don’t have to be daunting tasks either! Give yourself some relaxation time by waking up earlier for your morning coffee rather than rushing just to stop by a coffee shop. Blast some music as you chop up your own salad and create your own dressing. Making these tasks enjoyable will help you stick to it!
EAT IN
It may be convenient to order food or go out, but you are spending a lot more money and consuming a lot more calories by doing this. Those who prepare their own food and eat at home consume 20 to 40 percent less calories than they would at a restaurant. Cooking doesn’t have to take hours either! There are plenty of tasty, low-cost meals you can make for yourself and/or others. You should also consider cutting out sugary drinks. Water is the best option for keeping both your body and skin hydrated.
